Published by World Tibet Network News - Friday, December 05, 1996NEW DELHI, Dec 4 (AFP) - Some 300 Tibetan exiles will undertake a two-month-long march from a western Indian town to New Delhi in support of Tibet's independence, it was announced Wednesday.
The "peace march" will begin at Wardha on December 10, the Human Rights Day, and reach the Indian capital around February 15 after covering 11 major towns and trekking 1,350 kilometers (845 miles).
Wardha, located some 650 kilometers (406 miles) east of Bombay, was a political centre for Mahatma Gandhi when he led India's campaign for freedom from British colonial rule.
The Tibetan Peace March Movement said in a statement from Dharamsala, a hill resort where the Dalai Lama has his government-in-exile, that the march was against Chinese rule over Tibet.
India is home to the Dalai Lama since he fled his homeland following a failed anti-Chinese uprising in 1959 as well as more than 100,000 Tibetans.
