A unique event celebrating the rich folk music traditions of Tibet and contemporary composition.
12 Tibetan musicians join together in workshops, lectures, a gala concert, jam session, family programs and benefit dinner.

4/2 WEDNESDAY
4:00 - 6:00 Opening Reception and Introductory Talk on Tibetan Music
4/3 THURSDAY
12 - 1:30 pm Traditional Instruments Workshop / Master Class (including
styles of the sgra-brnyan (Tibetan lute):lecture and demonstration)
2:00 - 3:30 pm Voice Workshop - Music School
7:15 pm Gala Concert (Creative Arts Auditorium)
4/4 FRIDAY
12 - 12:45 pm Tibet, Music, and Change: Cultural Critique of
Contemporary Tibetan Music in Tibet - (Video viewing)
1:00 - 2:00 pm Cultural Critique (cont.): Discussion
3:00 - 4:30 pm Lecture on Lhamo (Tibetan Opera)
8:00 pm Open Jam Session: with Tibetan musicians and
university and local musicians.
4/5 SATURDAY
11:00 - 2 pm Family Program: music and culture of Tibet; traditional
dancing (Art Museum)
4:30 - 6:00 pm Meet the Artists: informal gathering with guest musicians
at the Tibetan Cultural Centre
Followed by: Buffet and closing showcase to benefit the Tibetan
Cultural Centre.
This festival is presented by the Indiana University Students and Friends of Tibet and is co-sponsored by more than 20 community groups, including The Lotus Festival, the Union Board, the Bloomington Area Arts Council, the Early Music Institute, the IU Office of Diversity Programs, and the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center.
