Today, here in South Australia we raised the Tibetan flag out front of the Kensington and Norwood council to commemorate the 1959 Tibetan uprising. This ceremony was co-hosted by the Australian Tibet Council and the Mayor of the City of Kensington and Norwood. The former Abbott of the Sera Monastery, India - Kangyurwa Kensur Lobsang Thubten Rinpoche spoke to the gathering about the history leading up to the March 10 uprising in Lhasa. We all shared a sadness in response to his words but were filled with determination to do what we can to bring about an increased awareness of the situation in Tibet.

The ceremony closed with the small group of Tibetan monks singing Words of Truth.

In Adelaide tomorrow (March 10) six councils will be flying the Tibetan flag as a symbol of unity and solidarity for Tibet, the Dalai Lama and his people.
