Published by World Tibet Network News - Monday, March 10, 1997PARIS, March 10 (AFP) - Protesters fixed a Tibetan flag to the spire of Notre Dame cathedral in central Paris overnight to mark the 38th anniversary on Monday of a March 10, 1959 uprising in Lhasa.
The protestors also draped a banner reading "Peace in Tibet" across the monument.
In a statement the Support Committee for the Tibetan People said "solidarity is constantly developing in France with the Tibetan people's resistance to Chinese colonisation"
The committee deplored the lack of determination shown by democratic governments, "notably that of France," to defend the right to life, identity and liberty of the Tibetan people.
The committee called for a demonstration later on Monday on human rights esplanade at the Trocadero overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
