Re: Invitation to attend the IIIrd World Parliamentarians' Convention
The International Campaign for Tibet is pleased to be hosting the IIIrd
World Parliamentarians' Convention in Washington, D.C. from April 23-24,
1997. This important convention presents an exciting opportunity for Tibet
Support Groups and Tibetan Associations to attend as observers for part of
the program. Previous Conventions have taken place in New Delhi, India,
and Vilnius Lithuania.
You are invited to attend the second day's proceedings during which the
international lawmakers will gather to strategize on behalf of supporting
the Tibetan freedom struggle. They will also finalize the conclusions of
the convention.
The schedule on the second day, April 24th, will begin at 9:30 AM with a
session on Multilateral Strategies for Tibet in the Rayburn House Office
Building, Room 2172, the Hearing Room for the House Committee on
International Relations. As you may know, that evening is the Interfaith
Prayer Gathering at the Washington National Cathedral (see the enclosed
letter and reply card) at which His Holiness will be speaking.
On the first day, His Holiness will open the Convention. April 23rd will
consist mainly of background discussion and committee work for which
observers will be Congressional Members and their staffs who may not have
had significant prior exposure to His Holiness or the Tibet issue.
If you wish to attend the Convention as an observer on April 24th, please
fax the form below to Unyong Kim at (202) 785-4343 by April 1st. We have
room for about 50 observers, so please notify us as early as possible,
otherwise there is a chance we may not be able to guarantee you space.
Each group may have up to two representatives attending. Due to the
demands of the many events related to His Holiness' visit, we ask you to
help us by providing for your own accommodation. For general questions
about the Convention, contact Bhuchung Tsering or myself at (202) 785-1515.
We hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity. See you at
the Convention!
