Published by World Tibet Network News - Saturday, March 22, 1997

Kaohsiung, March 21 (CNA) Master Chin Hsin, head of the Chinese Buddhist Association, said on Friday that he is sure President Lee Teng-hui will meet with Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, even though the time and venue of the meeting have yet to be decided.

He said that the Dalai Lama, who is scheduled to visit Taiwan between March 22-27, might meet with Lee on either the evening of March 26 or the following morning before his departure. As for where they will meet, the Dalai Lama side has expressed the hope that the meeting can take place in the Presidential Office, he added.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Buddhist Association made public the Dalai Lama's Taiwan itinerary.

The Dalai Lama is scheduled to arrive in Kaohsiung on March 22 and proceed to the renowned Fokuangshan Temple, the center of Buddhism in southern Taiwan. On March 23, he will visit two other temples in southern Taiwan and receive an honorary doctoral degree of philosophy from National Sun Yat-Sen University in Kaohsiung, in recognition of his contributions to promoting world peace.

Later that evening, he will fly to Taipei. On March 24, the Dalai Lama will meet with religious leaders and hold a press conference. He will make a speech at Catholic Fu Jen University in Taipei the next day and host a world peace prayer gathering in Taoyuan county.

On March 26, the Dalai Lama will conduct Buddhist rituals and on March 27, the Nobel peace prize-winner will hold a press conference before his departure.
