Prague, 7th April: Protests against human rights violations in China and Tibet, which have accompanied Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo's visit to the Czech Republic, continued today on the last day of his stay.
Wu Bangguo, who has been on a four-day visit to the Czech Republic as part of his European tour, held talks with Prime Minister Vaclav Klaus, Chamber of Deputies [parliament] Chairman Milos Zeman, Foreign Minister Josef Zieleniec and Trade and Industry Minister Vladimir Dlouhy. All his visits to Czech representatives were accompanied by protest actions staged by human rights activists.
Six demonstrators, who stood outside the Trade and Industry Ministry building waiting for Wu Bangguo's arrival, chanted "Freedom for Tibet". However, the last demonstration planned for Wu Bangguo's departure from Prague in the afternoon has not taken place as a column of cars with Chinese delegation members arrived at the Old Ruzyne Airport area before a group of 10 demonstrators arrived.
Stanislav Penc from the Documentation Centre for Human Rights, which organized demonstrations, told CTK today that the protests were successful as they called attention to non-observance of human rights in China and Tibet and the existence of tens of thousands of political prisoners in China.
