WASHINGTON, April 21 - The Dalai Lama is scheduled to meet with Vice President Gore on Wednesday afternoon, April 23. As of today there is still no confirmation of the meeting with the President. The Dalai Lama may be available for comment at the White House after the meetings.
The following day, on Thursday, April 24, the Dalai Lama will be meeting with Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. This would be the first time a U.S. Secretary of State had an official meeting with a Dalai Lama.
Scheduled meetings on Capitol Hill include a tea with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; a reception by the Congressional Human Rights Caucus; and private meetings with Speaker Newt Gingrich and Majority Leader Trent Lott, Democratic leaders Tom Daschle and Richard Gephardt. There will be a media availability on Wednesday, April 23 at 10:45 in Rayburn 2172 following the Dalai Lama's address to the Additionally, the Dalai Lama will be appearing on Larry King Live and the Newshour with Jim Lehrer on Tuesday, April 22.
