Numerous sources have reported on the aggravation of the situation in Eastern Turkistan. Three exponents of the Uigura resistance have been brought to "justice" with the trademark single gunshot to the head. Another 27 persons have been condemned to grave prison sentences under the accusation that they took part in antiChinese and separatist demonstrations. Eastern Turkestan (Xinjiang) has been annexed by Peking since the 1940's.
