Parliamentary Group for Tibet in Austria

On Thursday, May 15, 1997, members of the Austrian Parliament met with the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Central and Southern Europe, Mrs. Chungdak Koren, accompanied by representatives of the Tibet Support Groups in Austria, in the Parliament Building in Vienna. This meeting was the first of its kind, and had been organized by the Oesterreichisches Komitee fuer Tibet (Austrian Comitee for Tibet) consisting of outstanding individuals (among them Tseten Zoechbauer, founder of the organisation SAVE TIBET Austria, and the popular musician Hubert von Goisern) and representatives of the Tibetan Community and TSGs in Austria.

Deputies of the Greens, the Liberals and the People's Party had come to the meeting and assured their willingness to form a friendship group for Tibet. The Social-Democratic Party and the Freedomite Party had announced their participation but were not present at this meeting. It is hoped that they

will come to the next meeting which is planned for early in June. Austrian national television (unit for Parliament news) was present at the meeting and made interviews with Chungdakla, Tsetenla and Hubertla.
