KATHMANDU (June 13) XINHUA - Nepali King Birendra said here today that western countries want to make use of the Tibetan issue and the Dalai Lama to create confusion and misunderstanding, and China and Nepal should keep vigilance against this.
The Nepali King made these remarks when meeting with a visiting Chinese military delegation at the Royal Palace.
Noting that Chinese President Jiang Zemin had paid a successful visit to Nepal last year, King Birendra said he hopes the friendly relations between Nepal and China will be maintained and strengthened and carried on to the next generation.
He said all parties in Nepal believe that to maintain the best relations with China is in Nepal's interests.
The king said he was glad to see Hong Kong's upcoming return to China.
During the meeting, Lt. General Liao Xilong, head of the Chinese military delegation, conveyed the cordial regards for King Birendra from Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
And King Birendra asked Liao to convey his cordial regards to President Jiang Zemin and other Chinese leaders.
Liao said the delegation's visit to Nepal aims to promote understanding and develop friendship.
He said there are no problems left over by history between China and Nepal and as bilateral relations get further strengthened, relations between the two armed forces develop as well.
The Chinese delegation arrived here Thursday for a five-day visit to Nepal at the invitation of the Royal Nepalese Army.
This is the first visit ever to Nepal by a high-level Chinese military delegation.
