Lhasa, 6th July (Xinhua) : Construction started here today on the Tibet Autonomous Region's largest park.
Located in the western part of this capital city of the region, the Riyuehu park (sun-moon lake park [in Chinese]) will occupy an area of 26.4 ha and cost a total of 70m yuan to complete. The fund will be provided by a businessman from Thailand.
The park will be a complex of hotels, lakes, gardens, cultural facilities and a special centre for the elderly.
Statues of King Gesar [legendary Tibetan hero], Songtsan Gampo [first Buddhist king] and Princess Wen Cheng [Songtsen Gampo's Chinese wife], important figures in the history of Tibet, will be erected in the park, to highlight the Tibetan culture.
