BOULDER, CO (September 19, 1997) Colorado Friends of Tibet is pleased to announce that it will host SEVEN DAYS FOR TIBET - a week of Tibetan cultural events in Boulder, Denver and Ft. Collins. The week-long celebration is planned to coincide with the national and international release of the critically acclaimed movie, "Seven Years in Tibet," starring Brad Pitt.
As the SEVEN DAYS FOR TIBET special attraction, Colorado Friends of Tibet is honored to bring the internationally acclaimed group of Tibetan performers, The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) to Colorado for the first time ever. The Dalai Lama established TIPA 30 years ago to preserve Tibetan cultural traditions. Many now regard TIPA as the purest transmission of Tibetan culture available. TIPA's music is used extensively in the soundtrack for the movie "Seven Years in Tibet." TIPA will perform Friday, October 10th in Denver at 7 P.M. at the Temple Event Center; Saturday, October 11th in Boulder at 7 P.M. at Unity Church; and Sunday, October 12th in Ft. Collins at 7 P.M. at the Lincoln Center. Tickets to the Boulder and Denver performances are available through Rocky Mountain Teleseat (1-800-444-SEAT) and King Soopers, while tickets for the Ft. Collins performance are available through the Lincoln Center box office (970-221-6730). Tickets for the performances are $15.00 in advance, $19.00 at the do
or, and the net proceeds raised will go to support the work of both TIPA and Colorado Friends of Tibet.
TIPA was founded in India in 1959 following the flight into exile of 100,000 Tibetan refugees escaping the Chinese occupation of their country. As the Chinese began to destroy Tibetan cultural identity, it became imperative to find a means to preserve this rich culture. TIPA was the first of various institutions established by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for this purpose. Hence, its primary aim is the preservation and development of the unique tradition of the Tibetan performing arts of song, dance, music and opera. The performers are world-renowned and are treated on the level of "Hollywood" celebrities among the Tibetan people.
Colorado Friends of Tibet, the organizers of His Holiness The Dalai Lama's recent visit to Colorado, is a non-profit educational corporation dedicated to serving the people of Colorado and Tibet by preserving the unique cultural heritage of Tibet, and advocating self-determination for the Tibetan people in their homeland.
