[CND, 09/26/97] A story on China's TVB television channel, and relayed by the AFP English Wire, reports that the playing of the Chinese national anthem will soon be required in cinemas throughout the nation, including Hong Kong, unless the film being shown is foreign-produced.
Along with the playing of the anthem, a short film about China will also be shown. All of this is intended to cultivate patriotism and to teach young people about their country, especially those living in Hong Kong and still new to Chinese citizenship.
It is not yet known when the measure will be implemented, as the reel to be shown along with the anthem has just completed filming and is undergoing post-production in the United States. (Phil STEPHENS, Ray ZHANG)
