Guangzhou, October 23 (CNS) --- Last night, at Guangzhou Railway Station, police cracked three drugs cases within a few hours, arresting three suspects and seizing 2,170 grams of heroin. At 6.40pm, police arrested a man, a native of Shaanxi Province surnamed Zheng who was about to leave for Hangzhou City. He had on him 20 grams of heroin, wrapped in newspapers, which he confessed were for self- consumption only.
A few hours later, at 10.00pm, a man surnamed Lu from Xinjiang who was about to board a train for Beijing, was found in possession of 1,500 grams of heroin. The arrested man said he was not a drug addict, that the drugs had been bought in Guangzhou for trading purposes and were to be handed over to another person in Beijing.
Almost at the same time, another Xinjiang man was arrested and was found in possession of 650 grams of heroin stored in a box of biscuits. He admitted the drugs were for trading. In view of the increasing number of drug trafficking crimes on board trains, police are putting more effort into dealing with the trend.
