Published by World Tibet Network News - Monday, November 3, 1997 Part 1BEIJING, Nov 3 (AFP) - China "firmly opposes" the US appointment of a special coordinator for Tibetan affairs, the official Xinhua news agency said Monday.
"Tibet is an inalienable part of Chinese territory," foreign ministry spokesman Tang Guoqiang told Xinhua, adding it was a fact recognized by the international community.
Tang said Tibetan affairs were a Chinese domestic matter and no foreign country has the right to interfere in the country's internal affairs.
The United States said Friday it was appointing Greg Craig, a senior State Department official, as special coordinator for US policy on Tibet.
Chinese spokesman Shen Guofang who was traveling with President Jiang Zemin in the United States, told reporters in Boston Saturday that China rejected the appointment.
