Tibet is part of China: Nepal PM

Published by: World Tibet Network News, Wednesday November 12 1997

KATHMANDU, Nov 11, 1997 (AFP) - Nepal recognizes that Tibet is an integral part of China and will not allow any anti-China actions on its soil, Nepalese Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa told a visiting Chinese delegation.

"We have recognized and accepted Tibet is part and parcel of China and we assure the Chinese leadership that we will not permit any kind of anti-Chinese moves in Nepalese soil," Thapa reiterated to delegates from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, officials said.

The delegation led by deputy chairman of the Standing Committee, Chen Muhua, also discussed China's economic assistance for economic infrastructure development in Nepal, they said.

"We hope China's economic cooperation to Nepal will continue in future," Thapa said.

Chen said she appreciated Nepal's stand on Tibet.

The Chinese delegation arrived in Kathmandu Monday for a five-day visit and will also visit districts outside Kathmandu, a foreign ministry source said.
