Demonstration to protest China's occupation of Tibet and human rights abuses. From there we will drive to join the People's Summit Walk for Global Justice at the Plaza of Nations, The CTC really encourages Tibet supporters in APEC countries to come to Vancouver and participate in this march. We are planning a huge rally for Tibet, the likes of which the city of Vancouver has never seen. (all while Chinese President Jiang Zemin is in Vancouver to attend the APEC Leaders Summit).
Sun., Nov 23 6 pm, as close to the Hyatt Regency as possible at Burrard and Georgia
There will be a demonstration against the invitation of Jiang Zemin as the keynote speaker at the APEC gala sponsored by the City of Vancouver.
All 18 APEC leaders are invited to this dinner, including Prime Minister Chretien, President Clinton, and Indonesia's President Suharto. We are appalled at the City of Vancouver's mayor, Philip Owen, inviting such an dishonourable man to speak at this event paid for partly by the citizens of Vancouver. Jiang is the only keynote speaker and this will be his first public speaking event in Canada. The purpose of this gala is to drum up talks to promote trade between Chinese and Vancouver business people.
Please plan to take part and bring your Tibetan flags and signs! If you would like to participate in any of the APEC-related events which will feature Tibet, please contact either of the CTC offices below. Thank you for your interest!
