BACKGROUND: In 1937 a 2-1/2-year-old boy from a simple family in Tibet was recognized as the 14th reincarnation of the Buddha of love and compassion, and destined to become the spiritual and political leader of his country. Director Martin Scorsese brings to the screen the true story of the Dalai Lama. Told through the eyes of His Holiness, ``Kundun,'' from Touchstone Pictures, chronicles his early life, from childhood through the Chinese invasion and his journey into exile. The film stars Tenzin Thuthob Tsarong, Gyurme Tethong, Tenzin Kunkhyen and Tenzin Chodon Gyalpo. The film is directed my Martin Scorsese, produced by Barbara De Fina and written by Melissa Mathison.
