BEIJING, Jan 14 (Reuters) - An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the open-ended Richter scale jolted a remote mountainous area of Chinese-ruled Tibet on Wednesday, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, Xinhua said.

The quake struck the Kokoshili Mountain Range on the northern Tibet plateau at 3.44 a.m. Beijing time (1944 GMT), Xinhua said.

Last Saturday, an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck China's northern Hebei province, killing 50 people, injuring more than 10,000 and leaving more than 100,000 homeless in freezing weather.
