PARIS, Jan 14 (AFP) - US film director Martin Scorsese will head the jury handing out the prestigious Golden Palm award at this year's 51st edition of the Cannes film festival, festival director Gilles Jacob said Wednesday.

Scorsese, whose latest film "Kundun" about the Dalai-Lama was released in the United States at Christmas, won the 1967 Golden Palm for "Taxi Driver", the film that helped launch actor Robert De Niro's career.
