BEIJING, Jan 20 (AFP) - Chinese President Jiang Zemin has met the chairman of US media giant Time Warner Inc., urging him to portray China in a positive way in the United States, the People's Daily reported Tuesday.
"The news media plays an important role in people's understanding of the world," Jiang told chairman Gerald Levin in a meeting in Beijing on Monday.
"Mutual understanding between China and the United States mainly depends on the news media and I hope the media of both countries will serve as a bridge between the people of the two countries and present China to the world objectively and truthfully," he added.
Beijing has been angered in recent months by a series of US films that portray China in a bad light, including "Seven Years in Tibet," "Red Corner" and "Kundun."
