World Tibet Network News Sunday, March 29th, 1998

By: Tibet Bureau

Geneva, SWITZERLAND

Geneva, 27 March - Mr. Jose Ramos-Horta, the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate has expressed his solidarity with the six Tibetans who have launched an indefinite Hunger Strike in New Delhi.

In a message faxed to the six Tibetan through Tibet Bureau in Geneva, Mr. Ramos-Horta said: "You have my respect and solidarity in your initiative. However, I would prefer that you do not carry out the hunger strike you have started unto death. I believe that you must remain alive to see the Tibetan conflict solved. I am prepared to travel to New Delhi to meet you to share your experience, wisdom and courage."

In the message dated 26 March, the Nobel Laureate also told the six Tibetans: "I wish to express my full solidarity with the Tibetan people, and you six in particular in this occasion. As I stated in my Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, China should listen to the voice of peace and moderation of the Tibetan people. For many years, your spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, has offered a moderate peace proposal to the Chinese authorities to settle the Tibetan conflict."
