TYC UPDATE APRIL 1, 1998
New Delhi: Today on the 23rd day of the unto-death hunger strike of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), Mr. Donald Lu, Second Secretary for Political Affairs at the US Embassy in New Delhi, called on the six hunger strikers and asked when they were going to end their fast. Hunger striker Dawa Gyalpo told Mr. Lu that he would end the hunger stike only if the United Nations accepted the TYC demands.
The Himalayan Committee for Action on Tibet sent a petition yesterday to the UN Secretary General, requesting him to attend to the demand of the hunger strikers. A similar petition was sent by the South Asian Citizins Forum for Democracy. Besides, four NGO's attending the 54th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights issued a statement of support to the TYC movement.
