FROM CHIEF REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE, BANGALORE

BANGALORE, April 15, 1998 -- To express solidarity and show their support to the SIX TIBETANS UNTO-DEATH HUNGER STRIKE AT DELHI, the Tibetans resettled in the southern Indian states staged out various political movements and activities in the southern Indian cities: Lugsam and Dicky Larsoe Tibetan settlements from Bylakuppe held various activities in Chennai. Doeguling Tibetan settlement, Mundgod joined by Norgyaling Tibetan settlement from Bhandara held various activities at Mumbai. Rabgayling and Dhondenling Tibetan settlements from Hunsur and Kollegal held various activities in Bangalore.

During their activities in various cities and towns they highlighted the Chinese brutal supression and atrocites in Tibet. They also express deep concern over the health condition of the six Tibetans who were on fast unto-death at New Delhi. They regret that despite the six Tibetans on the verge of their dying, the Secretary General of the United Nation does not seem to take the matter into consideration. However, they strongly reacted that if the United Nation did not respond to the demands by the SIX TIBETANS HUNGER STRIKERS AT DELHI, they are in line to take their places the moment they sacrifice their lives.

Many press conferences were held in order to brief about the various events taking place. The organisers also request the press people to cooperate and help them to pass their messages to the world. They said, it is only through you, that we will be able to reach to the people at various levels. They have also submitted a memorandum to the Secretary General of the United Nation to implement the recommendations by International Commssion of Jurist and save the prescious lives of the six Tibetan national activists. It is sad that the United Nation take matters into consideration only and if violent methods are used, they added.

Till now the Tibetan freedom struggle has been guided solely by the principle stand of non-violence and through peaceful negotiations under the supreme leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Many newspapers had covered the events taken place at various cities and there was tremendous publicity and created awareness amongst general Indian public.

Under the banner of Tibetan Student's Association, about 100 Tibetan students from Mysore and Bangalore studying in various collges and institutions took out a protest march in support of their six compatriots who are unto-death hunger strike at Delhi. The students had also organised various skits to show the world about the atrocites committed by Chinese in Tibet. They also had press conference in Bangalore and highlighted the press about their activities in Bangalore. This protest will mark the students concern, solidarity and support to their six compatriots. They have also submitted a memorandum to the United Nation's secretary general urging him to respond to the three demands laid by the Six Tibetan hunger strikers at Delhi.
