Berkeley, (International Committee of Lawyers for Tibet): On April 15, the Chief Justice of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission, Losang Dhargye, met for two and half hours at the California Supreme Court with Justice Joyce Kennard. The meeting was part of a month long tour of the Tibetan Justice Commissioner through the United States organized by the International Committee of Lawyers for Tibet and the International Campaign for Tibet.
The judicial branch of the Tibetan Government in Exile opened last year and has incorporated procedures and judicial models from many jurisdictions around the world. Chief Justice Commissioner Dhargye took great interest in ideas presented by Justice Kennard who sits on one of the most influential court's in the United States. The Chief Justice Commissioner also visited the California Court of Appeals in San Francisco and the Superior Court of Alameda County where he observed a jury trial and met with the Presiding Judge. He also conferred with distinguished law professors at the University of California, Berkeley on issues of comparative law as well the Bay Area Tibetan community. His itinerary includes Hawaii, Seattle, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Boston, New York and Washington D.C.
