Confers Public Lecture in Berlin, Vienna and Winterthur (Switzerland)
Geneva, 4 June - His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and political leader of the six million Tibetan people will visit Germany, Austria and Switzerland from 5 to 21 June, 1998. His Holiness last visited Germany in 1996, Austria in 1995 and Switzerland in 1996. During this visit to Europe, His Holiness will also make two brief visits to Paris and Helsinki.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit Osnabruck and Munster in Germany from 5 to 7 June at the invitation of the Mayors of the two cities while Friedrich Naumann Foundation will host the Tibetan leader in Berlin. During the Berlin stopover on 8 and 9 June, His Holiness will give a public lecture on the topic, "50 Years After the Universal Declaration of Human Rights".
On the afternoon of 9 June , His Holiness will be arriving in Vienna as a guest of Forum Schwarzenbergplatz. In the evening, the 1989 Nobel Laureate will give public lecture in Vienna on the topic, "The Buddhist Way of Compassion and Love" at the House of Industry. On 10 June, the City of Vienna will be hosting an official luncheon in honour of the Tibetan leader's visit to the Austrian capital.
On 11 and 12 June, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will arrive in Bad Ischl and Graz at the invitation of the Mayors of the two Austrian cities. During a brief stop-over in Bad Ischl, the Tibetan leader pay a visit to an exhibition entitled, "Tibet in Bad Ischl". He will also speak to the people of Bad Ischl.
In Graz, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will consecrate a Peace Stupa installed by City of Graz. During an official luncheon on 12 June, His Holiness will be received by leaders of city and provincial governments and representatives of various religions in Graz.
The Tibetan leader will arrive in Switzerland on 12 June at the invitation of Choekhor Ghon Monastery (Tibet-Institute Foundation), one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Europe. The monastery will be celebrating its 30th anniversary of its establishment during the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. On 12 June, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will meet with the press at 17.00 hours at Tibet-Institut, Rikon.
In Switzerland, the Tibetan leader will bestow the Chenrezig (Buddha of Compassion) Initiation to the Tibetan Community on 13 June at Eulach Hall in the city of Winterthur. On 14 June afternoon, His Holiness will give a public lecture to a Swiss audience on the topic, "Compassion and Global Responsibility" at Eulach Hall.
After a two-day visit to Paris, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will arrive on 17 June in the Austrian city of Innsbruck as a guest of Prof. Zeilinger of the Physics Institute of the Innsbruck University. During this two-day visit, His Holiness will tour the laboratories of the University and hold discussions at a seminar with scientists on the issue of "Epistemological Questions in Quantum Physics and Eastern Contemplative Sciences:" The seminar is a part of the "Mind and Science Conference" between scientists and religious leaders to which the Tibetan leader had participated during the past 10 years.
During the visit to Austria, Germany and Switzerland, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is also expected to discuss the current Tibetan situation with parliamentarians, NGOs and government leaders
After a one-day visit to Helsinki, Finland on 20 June, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will return to India on 21 June, 1998.
