PARIS, June 15 (AFP) - The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, called on the European Union on Monday to work for dialogue between China and Tibet as he arrived in France for a three-day visit.
"I call for the opening of dialogue for the autonomy of my country, Tibet, and not independence," he said.
The Dalai Lama was met at the airport here by former culture minister Jack Lang, now president of the National Assembly's foreign affairs committee, which invited the exiled Tibetan.
The Dalai Lama gave a public lecture on Monday on the theme "Personal action and world action."
He will meet leaders of the Buddhist community in France on Tuesday and National Assembly speaker Laurent Fabius on Wednesday ahead of talks with parliamentarians.
