On the occasion of the anniversary of the invasion of Prague by Warsaw Pact tanks, a crowded and peaceful demonstration swept into Piazza Vaclav. This was instigated by numerous Czech political organizations and by Charta 77.
In spite of the unacceptable intimidation of the Czech Government directed at the international press, and in particular at the Radical Party, already the previous year accused of having promoted the demonstrations (as was the case!) a delegation of the Radical Party was present at the event. Emma Bonino, Maria Teresa Di Lascia, and Roberto Ciciomessere - members of the Secretariat - took part, also because there were so few foreign representatives there and in order to guarantee a minimum of vigilance and information. They were constantly in touch with Radio Radicale, the Italian network. At a subsequent press conference, the Radicals were thus able to witness the arrest and brutal repression of dozens of defenceless people, quite apart from denouncing the arrests of the spokesmen for the Hungarian Fidesz to public opinion..
