ROMAN ELECTIONS: THE ANTIPROHIBITIONIST TICKET OBTAINED L.86% OF THE VOTE AND THE ELECTION OF ONE COUNCILLOR IN THE ELECTIONS FOR THE CITY COUNCIL OF ROME--THE ECOLOGISTS OBTAINED 6.85% OF THE VOTE
AND THE ELECTION OF SIX COUNCILORS.
THE OPINION OF PANNELLA
Rome, October 30
"I congratulate Giulio Andreotti (ndr: the President of the Italian Council, Leader of the Roman Christian Democrats), the real winner of these elections. I admit that I have been beaten, and thoroughly so; but much more by the laics, on the one hand, and the PCI (Italian Communist Party) on the other (who save the furnishings, but of houses and politics in danger of collapsing, or which are decrepit, or in any case uninhabitable), than by him and the DC (Christian Democrats).
The 39-40 DC-PSI elected (the difference between which it is progressively more difficult to discern, if not for the stronger Roman roots of the former), must now designate their Mayor, who in all probability will be--like the most perfect anti-Nathan--the worst, whatever his name and individual capacity.
There was nothing whatsoever democratic about these elections, with--as usual--the Roman Magistrate keeping vigil.
The Antiprohibitionist campaign was for me stimulating, and I was happy to have been able to conduct it. I thank the citizens of Rome who encouraged us and--after this lesson--I feel committed with them, above all with them, to immediately propose once more a Nathan, as well as Antiprohibitionist, ticket for Regions, Provinces and "civic, laic and ecologist cities", for the spring elections.
If there is further delay in pursuing 'democratic alternatives' with this Roman and national PSI (Socialist Party) in providing a government for the city, I will consider that proposal from now on--once more--rejected which, frankly I would consider unbecoming and transformist."

ANTIPROHIBITIONISTS IN SPAIN: REFLECTIONS ON THE SPANISH SITUATION BEGINNING WITH THE ANTIPROHIBITIONIST AND ECOLOGIST RESULTS. THE ANTIPROHIBITIONISTS GAINED ONLY 3,300 VOTES IN MADRID.
STATEMENT BY TARADASH
Brussels, October 31--N.R.--Marco Taradash, Antiprohibitionist member of European Parliament, as regards the Antiprohibitionist election results in Madrid, stated:
"The results in the Spanish elections for the Anti- prohibitionists and the Ecologists have been too negative for us not to feel the necessity to reflect on the Spanish political situation.
Obviously, many factors were responsible for the traditional parties maintaining their hold on the voters, or at least on that section of the voters who avoided abstentionism.
What remains of this electoral campaign, which was conditioned decisively by State television subjugated to the Government party, is the favour with which the antiprohibitionist proposals met in that part of Spanish society (intellectuals, artists, workers with drug addicts) expressed in a demonstration in support of the Antiprohibitionist Campaign which resulted in dozens of signatures throughout Spain in favour of a ticket which was presented only in Madrid.
It is an optimistic sign for CORA and the International Antiprohitionist League."
