The campaign for new enrolments has been very slow in getting off the ground. Too slow. After achieving the first objective for the enrolment of 1000 members by the end of January, the objective of 5000 by the end of February was far from being reached. As we write this, there are scarcely more than 2,300 of us throughout the world. A number which falls far short of our objectives, while not a day passes in which the precision of these statistics is not confirmed by the facts. Not a day without a scandal, a drama or a tragedy due to the insensate drug prohibitionist policy. Not a day, from Germany to Romania, from the Soviet Union to Yugoslavia, without declaratins, demonstrations or decisions which make the situation in the European continent just a fraction more ambiguous, difficult or tense; not to speak of the other continents, of Africa and its daily silent tragedy, hunger; of Lebanon, of Syria, etc.
An impossible dream then, this transnational, transpartite party, this international federalist and nonviolent association which freely welcomes direct enrolments from anyone? We don't want to think so. But all the same we are absolutely sure that without yOu, without a direct commitment from you, without your direct, autonomous organization, all this is going to be far slower and far harder.
Among other things, we are also trying to help you. We are providing you with more and better informatiOn on what we are doing and trying to do.
