Dear friends,

As you may see from the table of enrolments, the situation is all but encouraging. Even though, if compared to last year the results can be considered positive (particularly in the Soviet Union or in Czechoslovakia), they are definitely not adequate to the aim we have set ourselves, and that is to reach, within the end of the year, the number of 50,000 enrolments throughout the world.

But time is still not ripe, over nine months before the deadline, to consider closed a matter which from the beginning we knew to be difficult. Instead, it is necessary to take inspiration from the positive elements that that have come to us from many sources in these last years in order to intensify our efforts: a "European and green Federalist" list in Croatia with a strong Radical connotation as far as aims and presences are concerned; Radical candidatures in the "republican" lists of the Civic Forum and in a list of independents in Czechoslovakia; a growing attention in Hungary toward the question of the adhesion of this country to the European Community; a firm commitment of the Soviet comrades on the Lithuanian question; scores of Anti-prohibitionist lists at the administrative elections in Italy; anti-prohibitionist initiatives already programmed in Soviet Union and in Czechoslovakia. And other things that it would be impossible to summarize here. Many things on our agenda therefore, with the possibil

ity of achieving important goals. But these difficult efforts will produce positive results only if tens and hundreds of those who read us decide to join in, to contribute with their enrolment and their commitment to the fulfilment of this project, unique throughout the world, of building a trans-national, trans-partitical and non-violent party.
