"The events of the Gulf, the German unity anticipated to the 3rd of October thanks to a Parliament that works properly. A mute Europe, its community pushed aside or on holiday. A mute European Parliament, maintaining its old agenda". Such was the beginning of the letter with which the member of the European Parliament Marco Pannella invited his colleagues to sign the following request to summon an extraordinary session of the European Parliament:

"To the President of the European Parliament, Enrique Baron:

According to comma 5 of article 9 of the Regulation, we ask you to summon an extraordinary session, so that the Parliament may decide on the crisis in the Gulf and on the German unity in relation to the construction of the European union, on the basis of the statements of the Prime Minister and of the President of the Commission, at the risk of postponing the ordinary session."

To this moment, over one hundred members of Parliament have signed the request.
