HAVE JOINED THE PARTY

Oktay Akhmedov, Baku (Azerbaijan)

member of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union

THE RADICALS' MESSAGE OF DEMOCRACY AND NONVIOLENCE

"What I am most interested in and involved in about the Radical Party is its transnational, nonviolent character, and the fact that it struggles to obtain freedom of information. This makes it possible to talk about Azerbaijan and its problems to the whole world. The Radicals' message of democracy and nonviolence is necessary here in Azerbaijan. The Radical Party's transnational character represents a breach in the information blockage.

NONVIOLENTS MUST ORGANIZE THEMSELVES

"I am joining the party because I consider it necessary for the nonviolents to organize themselves, and the Radical Party can be the means to achieve such organization. I consider a transnational political force which submits environmental battles and proposals to the institutions as essential. I intend to contribute in changing the political and institutional life in a democratic sense".

THE FUNDAMENTAL IMPERATIVE 'DO NOT KILL'

The principles that are the basis for the Radical Party's activity for the abolition of the death penalty and for the right to refuse to kill, the creation of an alternative civil service for conscientious objectors for which the Party is struggling - and above all the fundamental imperative 'do not kill', which is included in the Preface of the Radical Party's Statute - have much in common with the soul and the character of Christian religion.

In totalitarian countries we often see that human rights, including religious rights, are brutally violated. I believe my joining the Party - the transnational nonviolent party upholding human rights - can be of great help to my brothers and sisters.

AMONG THE FRIENDS OF ISRAEL

"My joining the Gandhian Party represents the token of a ten-year cooperation with the members and representatives of the Radical Party. Faithful friends and helpful militants, with whom I have shared many battles for Israel and for Europe. The bond between the Jewish world and the Radical universe is that fine line that characterizes the lay core of Italian society, which I have the honour of becoming part of today, by joining the Radical Party, a friend of Israel.

ONLY THE LEGALIZATION OF DRUGS

I was very much interested by the political line of this party, which I approached last year.

I know that many people, especially young people, have had problems as a consequence of the prohibition on the production and the use of drugs. Only the legalization of drugs can change this situation. And it cannot be ignored that the legalization of drugs will have a powerful effect, because it will prevent the spread of serious diseases which this way of assuming drugs is causing.

I am glad to have the possibility to work in the Party to promote its program, which I support completely; this is why I am very grateful to the Radical Party. Yours affectionately.

NEW ADHESIONS

"The reasons why I joined the Transnational Radical Party? Quite simply, because the Transnational Radical Party and its goals are similar to ours, in many respects. Moreover, the Radical Party is a humane, non-racist Party. This is what attracted me. I think that in the future this Party has brilliant perspectives in the whole of Europe. And I would like to add that the majority of people should know more about the Radical Party: it is vital for the party to receive continuous adhesions.

I AM NEITHER A RADICAL NOR A JEW

"I am neither a Radical nor a Jew, but the very fact of the demonstration for Israel, which you organized in January, is worth the L. 208,000 I am sending you. I urge you to keep fighting for civilization, against papist obscurantism and against the butchers of the world".

Oleg Gorshenin

conscientious objector, Moscow

THE RADICALS WERE THE FIRST

"Joining the Radical Party for 1991, I would like to look back for a moment to 1990, a year which I spent in prison as a conscientious objector. Even in prison I received information on the Radical Party's activities for the establishment of an alternative civil service. It was published on the official newspapers - the only available source of information in Soviet work camps.

Moreover, I would like to recall that the Radicals were the first to attract the attention of the public opinion on my case, a fact which lead to my release.

Now it is with great enthusiasm that I am joining my friends of the Radical Party in order to continue the struggle for the solution of the problem of conscientious objection, which I am so familiar with.
