THE TRANSNATIONAL DIMENSION: THE TRUE REVOLUTION FOR A BETTER FUTURE

I was fascinated by the the important concept of transnationalism, which represents the real revolution for a better future, and which corresponds to a prevalent trend which leads toward an integration based on an unconditioned respect of human rights, on nonviolence and on freedom.

I believe all these premises for a sustainable democratic community can be better achieved or perhaps achieved only within a transnational dimension. In fact, I believe that despite its countless eccentricities, the transnational Radical Party offers consistent innovations in its humanitarian approach to urgent problems that must be solved in this country as in Europe and in the rest of the world, if we want to ensure survival and human dignity.

EUROPE NOW!

I am joining the Radical Party for 1991 because the Transnational Radical Party's top priority is tremendously important for Europe and Hungary "on the eve" of the 21st Century. In other words, the creation of the United States of Europe, of a federal Europe. Why is this so important for us Hungarians? Because the peace contracts signed between the two World Wars have "broken up" Hungary with a total lack of political clairvoyance. Hungary can be ultimately compared to a man who has lost both his legs without a specific reason. It was foolish to think that man could ever recover his legs! But if we wipe away the borders, and guarantee, in the Constitution of the United States of Europe, the respect of the human rights of the individuals and of the ethnic groups in the different federal nations, then our fears, our concerns and our sufferances will disappear. Nothing else will be capable of removing them! The Radical Party's philosophy, which is inspired by Gandhi, the Master of the 20th century, according to

which we are all free to the same degree, could make nations grow beyond their borders, and, in my opinion, will no doubt make them grow. EUROPE NOW!

"A TOOL" AT EVERYONE'S DISPOSAL

I joined the Radical Party this year for the third time. I had already done so in 1989 and in 1990. I joined it with feelings of hope and gratitude; gratitude for all that the Radical Party has done for the rights of every human being, whatever his race, language, culture or religion. Hope for what it will be able to achieve, also and especially in Italy, in the sense of a reform of politics. I realized the Radical Party was a different party when, the first and the only one, it decided to stop running at political elections of any kind. I realized then that the Radical Party was not a party like others, but a "tool" at the disposal of each member. This is why in 1991 I expect our party, and Marco Pannella and Giovanni Negri especially, to carry out an effective and pressing action in Italy to reform the "putrefied" Italian politics, and to continue the battle even after the Constitutional Court "decapitated" the referendums, as was to be expected. You can always count on me for contributions, distribution o

f material and anything else I can do. On your part I expect the same splendid and precious commitment of 1990, for which I wish to thank you in advance with sincere affection.

THE RADICALS' NONVIOLENCE IS NOT A SIGN OF COWARDICE OR WEAKNESS

I am joining the Radical Party because it is the party of freedom and humanism, and the party of conscience. Courage and civil dignity are indispensable to defeat totalitarianism and fight against tyrannical regimes which do not respect human rights.

According to me, Gandhi was a great revolutionary and a militant of freedom. The Radicals' nonviolence is not a form of cowardice or weakness, because the Radicals sacrifice their lives for human rights. I think all those who struggle against fascism (be it Soviet, Chinese, Korean...) should join the Radical party.

LAST CHANCE

I have been thinking about joining the party over the last two years. This gradual choice has been difficult than usual, because I was a member of the Italian Communist Party for five years; I ignore the consequences this decision will have on the local Democratic Party of the Left (the name taken by the Communist Party after its refoundation).

In any case, I intend to take a serious commitment, also because I am disgusted by the way politics are conducted in this country. Precisely for this reason, the Radical Party assumes the meaning for me of a "last chance".

I TRUST YOU SO MUCH ....

Many and good have been the ideas, the proposals and the solutions undertaken by the Radical Party; many have reached their target, others have not, but have left a mark all the same.

I don't want to tire you with a list of things, but allow me to recall a series of important and decisive moments for the life of our Party.

1. The transnational choice; for a moment, I was perplexed, but then I agreed with enthusiasm, and I am sure it was a good choice,

2. I joined the Antiprohibitionist list with equal enthusiasm.

3. I joined the Forum of Democrats, and it was a wise choice.

Now I must confess I have doubts about the establishment of the A.R.Co.D. (Radical Association for the Democratic Constituent Assembly, editor's note). This perplexity of mine is supported by three points of Teodori's article on Radical News.

"If a movement, a force, a coalition, ultimately a party, will take shape in the chaotic process under way ...".

"For the moment we shall be capable only of creating embryos,

attempts, hypotheses, whose direction, evolution, and speed of development it is difficult to predict at the moment...". "For us radicals, who for years represented the operating...".

So I ask you: do we want to go back to the "old" system with something new, or to the future with something "old" which is not old and never was?

But I trust you and all the Radicals of the world to such a point that I joined the A.R.Co.D. long ago (09.08.91), confiding in good results.

P.S. We invite all those who intend to join the party to enclose a brief statement (between five and ten lines if possible) to their membership fee, explaining the reasons for their adhesion to the Radical party for 1991, and to send it to our Budapest office.
