NONVIOLENCE Dear friends,

With every new day, Europe - and the European Community in particular - bring shame upon themselves. Its "neutral" attitude between assailants and victims enables the fascist and racist power and the army of the coupmongers of Belgrade to use every day that goes by to extend its work of death and destruction and to annex wider parts of the Republic of Croatia.

With the sole force of nonviolence, we are trying to break this mechanism of the European shame, which is no less vile and suicidal than the attitude of the so-called "democracies" in the '30s vis-à-vis the rise of Nazi, communist and fascist totalitarianisms.

We are isolated. There are too few of us, even though, during these last few weeks, a number of prestigious personalities of the European cultural and political milieu have decided to break the wall of silence and give us a helping hand.

This issue of the Radical Letter contains some of the first statements of membership and therefore of active support for this project and party, together with the names of the parliamentarians who have decided to become part ALSO of the Radical Party.

This issue also gives an account of some of the initiatives we have tried to undertake on the subject of ex Yugoslavia, starting with the fast carried out by Marco Pannella, and with our Federal Council, which was held in Zagreb from 31 October to 3 November. They are listed together with the ideas and proposals on our initiatives in the coming weeks, starting with the demonstrations we will organize in several European cities to urge the immediate recognition of Croatia and Slovenia.

This is still not enough. We need to have more members, many more, if we want Europe to recover a minimum of political dignity and therefore if we want to stop the work of death and destruction enacted against the group of populations of former Yugoslavia, starting with the Serbian populations that are oppressed by the fascist and racist dictatorship of Milosevic.

Needless to say that there will never be too many of us!
