This is a special issue of the "Radical Letter", not so much because of the contents but the conditions under which it is being realized. Those of you who have followed our Congress in Rome, who have received the various issues of "The New Party", know that at the present time the Radical Party, after having published the seventh issue of the newspaper, no longer has the funds which would guarantee its continued existence as a Party. Moreover, we have decided to "reduce" the time permitted us by our finances even further by investing US$25,000 in this Letter, so that we may keep in contact with those people, members or no, who up until now have expressed an interest in the Radical Party, even if only out of curiosity.

From 3 May, the day the Rome Congress ended, up until the moment of writing (7 July), only 628 people throughout the world have joined the Radical Party: 40% from the Republics of the ex-Soviet Union, 32% from Italy, 14% from the Republics of former Yugoslavia, and 10% from Romania.

We now have nearly 6,000 members (5,849 to be precise), which is almost double the number of members who joined in the first six months of 1991 but still nowhere near the 50,000 members that would ensure the Radical Party's being able to continue with its activities.

On the other hand, less than a week after the seventh issue of "The New Party" was delivered in the various countries we have already received hundreds of replies from people who have decided to use this instrument and support our political initiatives; however, very few people have actually joined the Radical Party. It is not enough just to be curious, or to support political action, one has to join the Party as well. New members are still the only hope we have of being able to realize the Radical project, rather than being forced, once again, to cease our many activities.
