Radical Party Congress
30 April - 3 May 1992. At the 36th Congress of the Radical Party, a political commission meets with the task of identifying the stages of the "World Parliamentary Campaign for the Abolition of the Death Penalty by the Year 2000".
Appeal to the authorities of Virginia
18 May 1992. Demonstration outside the American Embassy in Rome to save Roger Coleman, Robert Black and Jesus Romero. Radical Party members hand over an appeal to the authorities of Virginia and Texas. An appeal is also addressed to Pope John Paul II.
20 May 1992. A torchlit procession/wake outside the American Embassy in Rome on the eve of the execution of Roger Coleman. Similar demonstrations take place in Milan, Naples, and Moscow.
Appeal to CSCE member countries
12 June 1992. Letter/appeal from the Radical Party to the members states of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe meeting in Helsinki. It asks CSCE member states which carry out executions of minors, pregnant women, the mentally handicapped and the old to accept the exclusions laid down for these cases by international conventions and, in general, for a three-year moratorium on executions.
The Ukraine
12 June 1992. Radical Party activists set up tables in Kiev for the collection of signatures for a petition in support of the abolition of the death penalty addressed to President Leonid Kravchuk and to the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian Republic.
Kazakhstan
23 June 1992. An appeal for the abolition of the death penalty, first signatory Ajtbaj Konysbaev, member of the Federal Council of the Radical Party, is signed by 23 deputies and sent to the Supreme Soviet of Kazakhstan.
Reply from the Italian government
24 June 1992. In reply to the letter/appeal sent to the CSCE, the Italian government informs the Radical Party that it is the co-author of a proposal which urges all CSCE member states to abolish the death penalty.
Albania
27 June 1992. In protest against the public hanging of Ditardh and Josef Cuko, two Albanian brothers, the Radical Party holds a demonstration outside the Albanian Embassy in Rome. The Radical Party asks the Italian government and the governments of the European Community to consider the abolition of the death penalty a fundamental condition for the continuance of the policy of agreements and economic co-operation with Albania.
Radio Radicale
27 and 28 June 1992. Non-stop phone-in broadcast on Radio Radicale on the subject of the death penalty. Listeners are given "30 seconds to give one reason for or against the death penalty". Politicians, commentators and journalists from all over the world take part.
The New Ukraine
28 June 1992. The first Congress of the New Ukraine Movement, held in Kiev, passes a special motion, presented by Vladimir Moskovka and Jurij Zbitnev, both members of the Federal Council of the Radical Party, and 31 members of the Congress.
Ukrainian Parliament
30 June 1992. A desk for the collection of signatures on the petition for the abolition of the death penalty is set up in the entrance hall of the Ukrainian Parliament. Altogether, fifteen parliamentarians have signed the petition for the abolition of the death penalty in the Ukraine.
