- Mr President, on a point of order. During the summer recess three British ferry companies - Stena Sealink, Brittany Ferries and P & O - decided to introduce a ban on the transport of live animals for slaughter. This has had a profoundly serious effect on farmers and rural communities in the United Kingdom. I would like, through you Mr President, to ask the Commission to make a statement to the House on what action is being taken to limit journey times for live animals and what action the Commission can take, via Member States' authorites, against transporters who cause unnecessary suffering to live animals in transport.
