- Mr President, I will be very brief. I support the report and am in full agreement the sentiments expressed by the rapporteur whom I congratulate on his work. We who live in the South of Scotland are no strangers to the problems in the North of Ireland. We have had close historic, economic and social links over the centuries. It is my belief that these links have a key part to play in the immediate future and I would ask that this House and the Commission in particular recognise the part we in the South of Scotland can play in assisting a lasting and just peace in the North of Ireland through the process of economic and social advancement based on dialogue and reconciliation. Thank you.
