I would like to thank the President-in-Office for her answer and I certainly will bring my colleague's attention to the answer that she referred to. I am also delighted to rise in this House for the first time on an issue of human rights.
By way of extra information to the Council, is it aware that on 29 April 1992 a Mr Hajit Singh was arrested in the state of Punjab? Mr Singh has many relatives and friends who live in my constituency in the United Kingdom. Since his arrest he has never been seen. He has disappeared. Despite the best efforts of his family and friends in the state of Punjab, Amnesty International and other elected representatives in this House and elsewhere, no trace has been found of Mr Singh. I was wondering whether the Council would accept that concerted action by itself on behalf of Mr Hajit Singh to ascertain his whereabouts and ensure his safe return to his family would go a long way towards addressing some of the fears and problems felt by people such as Mr Satinder Singh.
Would the Council be prepared to give me an assurance this evening that it would actually investigate also the disappearance of Mr Hajit Singh?
