The Commission's response really sums up my concern on this issue. Many people in this House - I suspect a vast majority of the Members - would like to argue for an increase in the quantity of aid we give to the developing world. But most of us are very unhappy with the quality of that aid, and for the Commission simply to refer to the answers already in print in its response to the Court of Auditors' criticisms is simply not good enough! The Commission does not seem to take the criticism seriously! I have been a Member of this House for ten years, during which time I have seen numerous Court of Auditors' reports criticizing the quality of our aid to the Third World. Many of us find it obscene - and I use the word advisedly - that this sort of aid should be abused. It is time the Commissioner took this matter more seriously.
