Question No 59 by Alexandros Alavanos (H-0437/94)
Subject: Commission's findings concerning non-compliance by the Italian Government with competition rules
In its answer of 3 September 1992 to my Written Question No. 726/92 (PE 159.978) on infringement by the Italian Government of freedom of maritime transport, the Commission stated that it was 'collecting the information it needed to answer the Honourable Member's question' and would 'inform him of its findings as soon as possible'. Two years have since elapsed and no information has been forthcoming concerning the results of the Commission's investigations. Why is the Commission taking so long to announce its findings, what is holding matters up, how did the Italian authorities respond and how does the Commission intend to bring to an end the infringement by the Italian Government of current competition rules?
