Falconer Alexander - 30 settembre 1994
MEP*MPE - Falconer (PSE).

Madam President, I refer to page 14 of the Bureau minutes of 14 September and to the statement from the President regarding a decision by the competent bodies of Parliament on 14 May 1992 to instal an electronic security system involving the use of a magnetic card for Members and officials. I also noted your reservations on these matters made at that particular meeting.

Can you or can the Bureau come back and advise us in a more detailed fashion of how this magnetic card will be utilized? For example, given the new turnstiles I see appearing across the Espace Léopold in Brussels, I am assuming that we will have some kind of card which we will have to insert in order to allow the turnstile to move. Given the number of Members of Parliament, I envisage some large queues building up as we wait to use these cards. Given the display earlier on in the context of the magnificent concerts we have in this building, it may be useful to have the concerts on site, in order to keep Members entertained while they get through the turnstiles, or even a system for moving over the turnstiles or under the turnstiles.

This is a ludicrous proposition and it should be withdrawn.
