Elliott Micheal - 25 ottobre 1994
MEP*MPE - Elliott (PSE).

Madam President, on a point of order. In relation to yesterday's business, we took a vote at 7 o'clock that had not been foreseen prior to our arrival yesterday. One of my colleagues asked the President about the meeting of the Bureau, and was told - and it was stated in the final draft agenda - that all meetings of committees and other bodies would start after the vote. Nevertheless, a number of committees, including my own, started at 7 o'clock, and a lot of people - the secretariat of the committee, the chairman of the committee - did not even know that there was a vote happening.

I should like to ask that this matter be examined again. It really is ludicrous that we say we are going to have votes and that no meetings will take place, then votes are brought in at exactly the time we have decided committees will start meeting. Nobody knows what they are supposed to be doing. I hope we shall not have a repeat of what happened yesterday evening. Either we do not have a snap vote brought in at the last minute, as happened yesterday, or a clear instruction goes out to everybody - including the secretariats of committees - that meetings do not start until after the vote has finished. I should like an assurance on that.
