Mr President, I have only one minute, but it is quite an important minute, because I want to congratulate the Committee on Budgets on its support for the work of the Committee of the Regions. This Parliament obviously derives its legitimacy from the direct elections. Sometimes, particularly in some Member States, there is a tendency to forget that people may have a territorial dimension to their lives and that the local authorities they elect have an important role to play in correcting or adding a balance to the European parliamentary process. So I am glad that the Committee on Budgets was able to resist the attacks it experienced where this budgetary line is concerned. Although the Committee of the Regions might have liked Rolls Royce funding, it has at least got a very good Volkswagen. I congratulate the Committee on Budgets and urge Members of Parliament to give this their full support and to see off any attempts to reduce the important work done by this committee.
