The Economic and Social Council,
Recalling its resolution 1981/87 of 25 November 1981, in which it decided to convene an International Conference on Population in 1984,
Noting with appreciation the report of the Secretary-General of the Conference and the significant progress made towards obtaining the necessary extrabudgetary resources for the Conference, as requested in paragraph 9 of Council resolution 1981/87,
Noting with satisfaction the current status of preparations for the Conference,
1. Welcomes the offer of the Government of Mexico to act as host to the International Conference on Population in 1984;
2. Decides to include in the agenda of its second regular session of 1982 an item on the convening of an International Conference on Population in 1984 in order to:
(a) Further review the financial estimates for the Conference contained in the report of the Secretary-General in the light of the contributions pledged;
(b) Consider the status of the preparatory activities being undertaken;
3. Urges Member States to provide necessary assistance and financial support in order to ensure the success of the preparatory activities and of the Conference.
