International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women
The Economic and Social Council,
Recalling its resolutions l998 (LX) of l2 May l976 and l98l/l3 of 6 May l98l on the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women,
Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on developments relating to the organizational aspects of the Institute,
Taking note with satisfaction of the report of the Board of Trustees of the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women on its second session,
Expressing its satisfaction with the approved programme and activities of the Institute for l982-l983,
Taking note with appreciation of the host country's effort to ensure the completion of the Institute's premises at Santo Domingo by June l982,
1. Requests the Secretary-General to take all necessary measures to ensure the transition of the functioning of the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women to its headquarters in the Dominican Republic;
2. Emphasizes that the research and training activities of the Institute should aim at strengthening the links between issues affecting women and mainstream development activities at all levels;
3. Endorses the network concept to be developed in stages with the organizations of the United Nations system and regional and national institutions as a mode of operation for the execution of the programmes of the Institute;
4. Reiterates the need for close and continued co-operation between the United Nations system and other organizations and the Institute, particularly in research and training, which would lead to increased technical co-operation for development;
5. Requests the regional commissions, the specialized agencies and other organizations and bodies in the United Nations system to co-operate fully and to give support to the Institute, particularly in the programming and implementation of joint activities;
6. Calls upon all Member States to contribute to the United Nations Trust Fund for the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women or to co-operate in other ways with the Institute so as to ensure regular and effective financing for its programme development;
7. Requests the Secretary-General to inform the General Assembly at its thirty-seventh session of the activities and programme of the Institute.
