Identification of the least developed among the developing countries
The Economic and Social Council,
Recalling General Assembly resolutions 2768 (XXVI) of 18 November 1971, 3487 (XXX) of 12 December 1975, and 32/92 and 32/99 of 13 December 1977, and Council resolution 1981/34 of 8 May 1981, establishing the current list of the least developed countries,
Recalling also Council resolution 1981/47 of 20 July 1981 and decision 1982/106 of 4 February 1982, on the basis of which the Committee for Development Planning undertook to consider whether certain countries met the existing criteria for inclusion in the list of the least developed countries in the light of new data and information provided by the Governments of those countries,
1. Approves the recommendation made by the Committee for Development Planning at its eighteenth session regarding the inclusion of new countries in the list of the least developed countries;
2. Recommends that the General Assembly at its thirty-seventh session should approve the inclusion of Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone and Togo in the list of the least developed countries.
