Tenth anniversary of the World Food Conference
The Economic and Social Council,
Recalling the Universal Declaration on the Eradication of Hunger and Malnutrition as adopted by the World Food Conference and the Programme of Action as adopted by the World Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development,
Recalling also Economic and Social Council resolution 1983/71 of 29 July 1983 and General Assembly resolution 38/158 of 19 December 1983,
Noting with appreciation the documentation prepared for the tenth session of the World Food Council, in particular the report prepared in co-operation with the Department of International Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat on the global assessment of resource flows through the United Nations system to the food and agriculture sector, requested by the Economic and Social Council in paragraph 10 of its resolution 1983/77 of 29 July 1983,
1. Welcomes the report of the World Food Council on the work of its tenth session, held at Addis Ababa from 11 to 15 June 1984, endorses the conclusions and recommendations of the Council, as adopted, and recommends them to the General Assembly at its thirty-ninth session for consideration;
2. Recommends that the General Assembly, at its thirty-ninth session, should appropriately mark the tenth anniversary of the World Food Conference, held at Rome from 5 to 16 November 1974, taking into account the ten-year assessment of the world food economy carried out by the World Food Council.
